About

Welcome to Blue Moon Counselling Studio

At Blue Moon Counselling Studio, Crystal believes in the power of psychotherapeutic, mind-body, art therapy, and spiritual based approaches to help clients understand a holistic and mind-body approach to chronic illness, pain or addictive process recovery.  Through this lens, clients can discover who they are at their core while learning about TMS approaches, neuroplastic symptoms and pain reprocessing therapy as pathways to restore health.  Clients will understand that symptoms are often messengers to deeper spiritual, unconscious or unprocessed needs and emotions that are seeking to be heard and acknowledged.   If you've tried everything and feeling stuck in your healing journey through the medical system, Blue Moon Counselling Studio services may be a great fit for you.  Be sure to read Crystal's story of her own journey through chronic illness recovery.

Professional Journey

My Story

As a Métis woman, I value the importance of storytelling in the healing process. I have learned
a lot from hearing stories and wanted to share my story with you, so you can understand why holistic therapy is important to me. I began studying mind-body medicine and mind-body approaches to healing in my own journey through chronic illness because I felt abandoned by the medical system who told me I had to
learn to live with a lifelong blood disorder, while offering no support.

Prior to this, I had struggled with an eating disorder in my teen years and into my twenties, when I
discovered a transpersonal (spiritual) approach to eating disorder recovery. I found Marion Woodman’s work
(1980, 1982) when studying women’s psycho-spiritual development at the Institute of Transpersonal
Psychology. It was life changing because Marion Woodman’s approach to healing (1980, 1982) allowed
me to discover and name the root cause of the eating disorder: an abandonment of my emotional and spiritual
self. I was able to heal my eating disorder by reconnecting and freeing my soul back into my life, while tending to and expressing the stuck emotions in my body.

Over ten years ago as I entered my thirties, I was diagnosed with a serious chronic illness that requires
almost daily blood infusions. At the height of my illness, and almost a year of being in and out of the hospital, I
began to study mind-body therapy to help myself get back to a functional level so I could live my life outside
of a hospital room. By learning how my ill body was a representation of my ill mind and my unexpressed and
stuck emotions, I began a journey of deeper healing. As I dug into mind-body therapy, it reminded me of the
transpersonal approaches to eating disorder recovery. I had once again lost my balance and abandoned my
emotional and spiritual self, except this time, the symptoms were not those of an eating disorder but of a
chronic illness.

A lot of my healing came from returning to my own body, connecting to my spirit and emotions by making sacred art,Indigenous teachings, through spiritual healing, ceremony, ritual and prayer, and not from cognitive oriented psychotherapy. I had to reclaim a way of being that was emotionally and spiritually rooted, something I had found my twenties, but lost again as the busyness of motherhood, marriage, career and life overwhelmed me.  I also had to heal my addiction to perfectionism (a common experience in chronic illness) and my nervous system.

My healing is ongoing and involves a regular spiritual and creative practice that includes connecting to my emotions and my body.

If my story sounds familiar and you have experienced similar experiences, I welcome you to try a unique, holisitic and evidence based healing path that can help you reconnect to your deepest Self and is likely to help lessen your symptoms.  If you'd like to book a free 15-minute video call to see if we are a right fit to work with each other, I'd love to hear from you.
